My Return to Reading After a Long Break
Hello, readers…
Welcome to Inks and Reels ❤️
When I first started blogging, many people asked me,“Why blogging? Why not vlogging?”
“Who even reads these days?”
Honestly, I had those doubts too. But slowly, I began to discover a quiet community — people who still love to read.
The comments on my last blog were proof of that. They weren’t just numbers; they were real words from real people who read, felt, and responded. —https://inksandreels.blogspot.com/2025/07/meena-and-me-lesson-in-kindness.html
(you can see for yourself if I’m making this up!)
And that’s why I write. That’s why I’m here, once again — sharing something from the heart.
In this blog, I want to take you through:
• What made me want to read again
• The books I chose
• How reading changed me
• And whether I want to keep reading
What made me want to read again?
I was stuck in a reading slump. I hadn’t read a book since 2021 — quite a long break, wasn’t it?
In April, I took a vacation. Travelling, exploring new places, tasting unfamiliar foods, and experiencing different cultures made me realize how small we are… and how much we still don’t know.
Somewhere between those days, I found the motivation to return to something I had always loved — writing.
But here’s the truth: only a good reader can become a good writer.
That’s when I decided to read again.
What books did I choose?
Since I was coming out of a long slump, I needed something short, meaningful, and easy to follow. I searched a lot, found many titles, but couldn’t get past a page.
It happens — and it’s okay.
Some books just don’t suit our season in life. If something doesn’t feel right, drop it and pick another. No guilt.
After quitting two books midway, I finally found a motivational book (not usually my favorite genre) that was under a hundred pages. It was simple, fast-paced — and exactly what I needed.
How has it changed me?
Reading has shifted something in me.
My imagination feels alive again.
My emotions feel more expansive.
I’m seeing things more clearly.
I find bits of myself in the pages — in stories, quotes, even between the lines.
Flipping through pages feels like joy again. Finishing a book feels like a quiet victory.
Do I want to read more?
Absolutely.
A 100% yes❤️.
Right now, I have the spirit to read. To keep going. To explore more — through the incredible power of words.
Curious to know which five books helped me climb out of my reading slump? Stay tuned — I’ll be sharing them in my next blog😍.
Beautifully written! I related so much to your reading journey — it’s comforting to know others feel the same. You’ve inspired me to pick up a book again. Looking forward to the next post🥳

ReplyDeleteI used to read in my childhood days. Now no time to invest in reading. Always feel guilty, but as you said getting the right book will help.
